Located just outside the west entrance of Joshua National Park is AutoCamp, a unique experience unto itself. AutoCamp converts classic Airstreams, creating a sense of luxury and nostalgia. In the evenings, circle around the campfire for guided discussion while taking in the expansive views of the surrounding Joshua Tree area.

Joshua Tree National Park is every hiker’s paradise. The terrain variety in this Californian park is astonishing—the hikes take you through deserts, oases, mountains, canyons, rocky mazes, old-timey mining stations, and, of course, a lot of Joshua Trees. There’s also no shortage of great views, as towering rock formations and sweeping vistas await around every bend. And if you keep a close eye on the desert wildlife, you may even spot a desert bighorn sheep, cottontail rabbit or roadrunner.

Joshua Tree’s diverse collection of desert flora and fauna and a rich history never cease to amaze its visitors.

Travel through two deserts and the transition zone between two ecosystems on this naturalist-guided tour. You will explore a vast wilderness area filled with jumbled boulders and the Park’s iconic Dr. Seuss-esque Joshua Trees.

Take in the spectacular view at the Key’s View Overlook, which offers a stunning viewpoint from 5,185 ft. in elevation where you can see all the way to Mexico on a clear day.

Class & Hike
Hiking through Joshua Tree, your guide will take you on a journey through the desert ecology, learning about the native flora, fauna and light botony. The experience will encompass the traditional and modern uses of the indigenous plants, giving you an opportunity to smell and taste some of the herbal preparations. By the end of the hike, you will be able to create your own herbal remedies using plants provided.

What's the best time to go?
Joshua Tree National Park can be visited year-round, but the most comfortable time to go is March to May and October through November.
What experience do I need?
No experience is necessary to go rock climbing. Wilder's guides are trained and eager to teach first-time climbers the basics of rock climbing.
Can I choose other activities?
Can I use this program at another destination?
Wilder's Forum Retreats can be held in many destinations, whether it's Joshua Tree, Yosemite National Park, Acadia National Park or at a site closer to home.
Each retreat can be customized to meet your objectives. Rock climbing can be substituted with hiking, bouldering, mountain biking, 4x4 jeep tours or other experiences.
