Texas Retreat FAQ

______

What's the best time to go?

Spring

Spring is an ideal time to visit Texas as the wildflowers like bluebonnets and texas bluebell are in full bloom. Later in the spring season between May and June, you can witness the endless fields of aromatic lavender. Temperatures in the spring can range from the 50's to 80's, making it comfortable just about any outdoor experience.

Summer

Summer in Texas can be brutally hot, though if you design your retreat carefully, you can take advantage of the heat. Hill Country's swimming holes such as Jacob's Well in Wimberley are perfect for beating the heat. Finding the right basecamp is also important, as you'll want to choose a site that is well shaded.

Fall

The Texas fall can still be warm, but comfortable, especially as you head into October and November. Autumn in Texas typically has lower humidity and the rustic colors of the pecan tree leaves are quite a site.

Winter

Winter in Texas can be a gamble, but worth the risk if you want to avoid the crowds. Daytime highs from December through February are in the 60's, ideal if you don't care for the heat. A word of caution, Texas can have the occasional snow or ice storm, so your retreat should have an indoor backup plan.

Does my team need to be physically fit?

Texas Hill Country has a wide range of activities, from active adventures like hiking, and horseback riding to relaxed experiences like wine tastings and foodie tours. If you want to have an inclusive group experience in the outdoors, Texas is home to some of the best rodeos in the world, not to mention unique activities like strolling through the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center.

What's the closest airport to Hill Country?

Hill Country sits on the Edwards Plateau, a region in Central and South Texas. Typically, inbound travelers land in Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, a 30 - 40 minute drive to Dripping Springs. For retreats a little further south, it may be closer to fly into San Antonio International Airport. Alternatively, there are many regional and municipal airports throughout Hill Country.

What's the ideal group size?

Hill Country has the capacity to manage larger groups, from 50 to 300, as well as smaller teams who need a private experience away from the office. For larger groups, Wilder recommends dividing into smaller teams in order to maximize the enjoyment of an adventure, then bringing the entire team together for a shared-group experience like a private rodeo, concert or foodie tour.
